Here I am, a Brit in the United States of America. Not an unusual tale, you might say, but since this is the fifth continent I have worked on, and since I am a VERY serious working girl (not in that way, saucy!), who can’t think of anything but food, buying it, preparing it, conjuring it up in new ways to impress whomever. And considering I talk about it non-stop to my poor colleagues, who just want to get on with their work, and don’t want to be made hungry by my tale of what I plan to do later with the humble potato, or a bit of beef mince and pastry. And since my boyfriend (we’ll call him “Handsome”), who loves to eat my food, but doesn’t necessarily want to discuss it twenty-four-seven, I thought perhaps you may want to hear, and share in my life of food, work and my rather delightful family, both old and new.
In this tale, which is my life, the most amazing part for me is my renewed interest in cooking and my desire to make my whole life about food. I don’t actually have the luxury or liberty to focus solely on food, but I can take tiny steps to reinforce to myself, and the whole world (or the tiny part of it that reads this blog) that food is important. That finding new, ingenious, delicious ways to prepare it and serve it up, deserves to be shouted about and shared, even if the only person that really cares about it is me. I hear my friends and family groaning. You thought you would read about my life and that you would finally get to hear what I and we are up to. Well don’t panic, I will definitely talk about that too. As food and life for me are linked together inextricably, the two walk hand in hand, and one can’t exist without the other.
So welcome, have a look around. Let me know what you think, good or bad. And if you have any recipes I can try, let me at ‘em!
